Go ahead, hear it for yourself!
Summer Already?
So we had about two days of lovely, breezy springtime, and now suddenly it’s 90 degrees. Weird.
Yesterday we got up, got dressed, and walked ourselves over the bridge to Petersburg. Nothing was open there except Dixie Diner, so we stopped in for a nice breakfast.
Walking back from Petersburg is always a little more of a challenge (especially with our bellies full of omelet and bagel), but we made it home before the really sweltering heat started.
Joe is going through another one of his “I don’t need no stinking nap” phases. I think this is the culprit:
A Perfect Spring Day
Today it was about 70 degrees, without a cloud in the sky. We went to Maymont and strolled around the grounds there. They have a petting zoo and lots of lovely little gardens — plus BEARS!
After we’d walked around the whole place, we plopped down on a grassy hill and just enjoyed the sunshine for a bit.
Baby Joe, After His Bath
I know, I’ve been slacking on the blog. I’ll get back in the swing of things soon. In the meantime, enjoy a little post-bath Joe:
Teething … again.
Joe has been out of sorts for the past several days, refusing solid foods and just generally being a grump. His usual good nature has been replaced by gallons of drool, so we knew it was teething time again.
If you look here, you can see his new top teeth!

Eat at Joe's
Joe continues to be a good little eater, and he’s trying new things all the time.
I have been making a lot of his food. It’s not only cheaper, but it lets me know exactly what he’s getting. I puree a fruit or vegetable, pour it into ice cube trays, and freeze it overnight. Each cube is about an ounce, so it’s easy to make him a portion of food. Just throw a few cubes into a bowl, nuke it for a few seconds, and voila.
His favorites:
bananas
sweet potatoes
squash
mangoes
His not-so-favorites:
peas
carrots
green beans
kiwis
His don’t-even-bothers:
yogurt (!!)
hard-boiled egg yolk
Unfortunately, he does seem to prefer the packaged baby food. This is his absolute favorite:

Patrick and I have been eating pretty well lately, too! Last week I made spinach and chicken pie with a lovely phyllo crust:
And last night, in perfect weather, we had a light soup-and-salad dinner on the back porch:

Tonight, I’m going to try making cashew chicken. Wish me luck!
… aaand springtime.
Snow Day!
Night Vision Joe
Joe likes to make a little noise before falling asleep at night, which makes it a lot of fun to check on him through the video monitor.
Here he is looking right at the camera and getting some things off his chest.
