Inauguration Joe
He was not as impressed as his mama was:

Now, Back to Joe
Yelling and Drooling
When he’s not doing push-ups with his dad or trying to stand up on the dining room table, Joe enjoys yelling and drooling. Simultaneously.
Stander-Upper
Joe’s not breaking any records in upper-body strength (he might get that from me), but he could kick down doors with those little legs of his!
His new favorite thing is standing up on tables. He needs some help with balance, of course, but he gets a kick out of seeing me eye-to-eye on the changing table, or surveying the kitchen from high up on the counter.
Tonight he was so excited about standing up on the dining room table, I thought he was going to break away from Patrick and run laps on it.
Seven Months Old!
Joe celebrated his 7-month birthday among friends yesterday. All three of us went for lunch at a friend’s house, where all the babies in his play group were gathered with their parents.
He also discovered a new least-favorite food (spinach) and a new way to make him laugh (tweak his nose and say “noooose!” in a high-pitched voice).
He seems to be working on yet another tooth. We haven’t located it yet — but judging from his grumpy attitude this afternoon, it’s coming!
This Just In: A Tooth!
Two days ago, Joe was drooling even more than usual and chewing on his fingers a lot. I offered him one of my knuckles, and as soon as he got it in there, I felt something sharp scraping my skin. I pried his mouth open and got just the slightest glimpse of a tooth coming through.
Today it’s finally grown enough to photograph:

Our boy is growing up!
Jumpin' Joe
Joe has a new toy — one of those Johnny Jump-Up things that hangs in the doorway on a spring so he can jump and bounce.
He wasn’t sure what to make of it at first:
But now look at him go!
(OK, Patrick helped a bit.)
Joe Playing in the Command Center
New Year's Eve
I predicted that I’d be asleep by 10 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, but I bought some champagne to toast with before bed. I didn’t remember I had it until about 9:45, so we sat down to have a glass and talk about our resolutions for the year.
One glass led to a second, and before we knew it, the clock said 11:45!
Right about that time, Joe woke up crying with some teething pain. So we all ended up in the living room, watching Dick Clark as the ball dropped.
Here are some of the resolutions we came up with:
- Watch less TV.
- Travel more, even if it’s just a day trip to another town and back.
- Have more fun with Joe.
- Get more exercise.
We also spent some time talking about how different Joe will be this time next year. On the one hand, I’m eager to see the little boy he will become. On the other hand, I want him to stay as little and sweet as he is now!
