Rash!

This poor kid can’t catch a break. He’s getting over pneumonia, has four molars coming in at the same time, and now this:

Rash 3

Our diagnostic specialist, Dr. Google, suggests that it’s one of two things:

1) A reaction to the amoxicillin Joe was taking for his pneumonia (who knew you could have a reaction after a week?)

2) A viral condition called “fifth disease,” which is not as bad as it sounds.

Either way, it doesn’t seem to bother him and it’s not contagious. But it looks so uncomfortable!

  1. My daughter took amoxicillin for the first time last week. Now after a week a very similar looking rash has appeared on her. She has a cough, but is happy and doesn’t seem bothered by the rash and is playing like normal with normal appetite. Doctor had a look at her last night and couldn’t diagnose it and prescribed antibiotics again, which I haven’t given. How long did it take for your son’s rash to clear up?

    1. Within 3-4 days he was right back to normal! We were out of town at the time, so his pediatrician didn’t get to see it with her own eyes. But to err on the side of caution, she has not prescribed amoxicillin since then. I hope your girl is on the mend soon!

  2. Day 3 and the rash is starting to clear up. I’m glad I saw your son’s picture. I was very anxious yesterday. I was reading very similar stories from other parents. Thank you.
