Eat at Joe's

Joe continues to be a good little eater, and he’s trying new things all the time.

I have been making a lot of his food. It’s not only cheaper, but it lets me know exactly what he’s getting. I puree a fruit or vegetable, pour it into ice cube trays, and freeze it overnight. Each cube is about an ounce, so it’s easy to make him a portion of food. Just throw a few cubes into a bowl, nuke it for a few seconds, and voila.

Bananas make me happy!

His favorites:
bananas
sweet potatoes
squash
mangoes

His not-so-favorites:
peas
carrots
green beans
kiwis

His don’t-even-bothers:

yogurt (!!)
hard-boiled egg yolk

Unfortunately, he does seem to prefer the packaged baby food. This is his absolute favorite:

Patrick and I have been eating pretty well lately, too! Last week I made spinach and chicken pie with a lovely phyllo crust:

Yum

And last night, in perfect weather, we had a light soup-and-salad dinner on the back porch:

Tonight, I’m going to try making cashew chicken. Wish me luck!

Mini Me

Patrick put these two photos together to show the similarity between Joe and me. (That’s me on the left, around 2 years old?)

He definitely has my mouth and nose (which is to say, my dad’s mouth and nose). But there are babies in his play group who started out looking like one parent — and now look exactly like the other one.

Who knows what he’ll look like a year from now?

Joe and Me

Springtime in February

It was ridiculously beautiful out today, so the three of us went for a stroll around Carytown. Patrick and I ate sushi while Joe napped in his stroller, and about the time Joe woke up it was time to head back home.

We put a blanket out on the lawn and had some fun in the fresh air. We haven’t been able to spend that much time outside since around October. He still loves it out there!
